Subsidary Task - Album Cover

Alongside the primary task of the music video, we have to also create another two products, which support the main task. One of my chosen two tasks was the creation of a DVD 4 page Digipak cover for my featured artist 'James Longley.' The title of the album came from my coursework at AS where i created a music magazine with a double page spread featuring my artist and i decided at that point that the debut album, which brought my artist to success was to be called 'Everything Else Has Gone.' I chose this title as it is emotional and links with the subject matter of the song 'Supernova,' which i wrote about in the DPS.

The main image on the cover is a shot which i took when filming one of the shots for my music video. However it is not a close up and instead is a wide angle mid shot showing a lot of the surrouding set, E.G the lights and mise-en-scene. I chose to do this as it goes along with the title of the album. 'Everything Else Has Gone,' shows that by having the fame and attention the singer has lost normality in his life. This is shown by the artist sitting on set surrounded by the lights and equipment on his own, looking slightly upset.

I have edited this photo using Adobe Photoshop Elements 6.0. Firstly I chose to change the colouring of the photo to black and white. I did this so the image had a dark, sad feeling to it. Also by having the photo in Black and white I was able to edit the photo in a different way, similar to how I edited the front cover of my magazine at AS. I chose to focus on certain items in the room, E.G the clock and fairy lights. I chose to do this as I was very pleased with this method when I used it for my AS project and the style is similar to one of the artists that my fictional artist is based around, Mr Hudson who wrote and performed the song, 'Supernova.'

On the cover of the DVD I included made reference to how I plan to do my evaluation and say about how it will be included within the Digipak, a TV style interview.

On the back page, I decided that I would have the album track titles, information about what is on the DVD and also the normal logos at the bottom, including a PG rating and the artists fictional website.

On the two inside pages I wrote out the story behind the DVD and information for the reader about the year my artist has had and also a more in-depth look at what is on the DVD.
